Making Cladding Work

Cladding is where performance and appearance have to work together. It protects the building, completes the façade and gives a development much of its visual identity. Alloy Fabweld designs, manufactures and installs bespoke architectural cladding systems for residential, commercial and mixed-use projects, including rainscreen cladding, specialist metal and glass systems, feature panels, soffits, column casings, window surrounds and integrated façade details. Every package is developed around the project, not forced into a standard answer. That means the finish, pattern, colour, fixing method and interface details can all be shaped around the architect’s intent, the contractor’s programme and the long-term needs of the building, while still keeping safety, durability and buildability at the centre of the design and final delivery too.

Good cladding is not just about the panels you see from the street. The real value sits in the details behind them: the interfaces, fixings, loading, access, fire strategy, waterproofing and coordination with other trades. Alloy Fabweld brings these details together through early design support, in-house technical knowledge and off-site manufacturing methods. Working closely with main contractors, façade teams, waterproofing specialists and fire protection contractors, we help make sure each cladding package is properly considered before it reaches site. This collaborative approach supports warranty requirements, helps protect the structure from the elements and gives project teams a clearer route from design intent to a finished, compliant and buildable façade package that works properly on site and beyond final project handover.

Our cladding experience covers far more than flat panels. We have delivered striking façade metalwork, perforated aluminium features, brise soleil solar shading, winter gardens, sliding screens, balcony interfaces, canopy cladding and complex shaped systems across major developments. At North West Cambridge, Alloy Fabweld delivered unique Oakleaf design window surrounds in perforated aluminium, creating both pattern and shading. At Brandon House in SE1, we designed, manufactured and installed cladding, brise soleil and contemporary balconies as part of a high-profile residential scheme. Projects like these show how cladding can be both practical and expressive when the design, manufacturing and installation teams are properly joined up.

Because we manufacture in-house, we can respond to challenging shapes, bespoke patterns and unusual configurations with greater control. Our design team can develop the technical details, our production teams can fabricate to the required finish, and our site teams can install safely, including on projects where working at height, access and sequencing all need careful planning. Designs can take account of barrier loading, wind loading, façade interfaces and passive fire protection requirements, while still protecting the overall appearance of the building.

Where it adds value, cladding can also be incorporated into broader off-site assemblies, including balconies, canopies and other primary or secondary structures. This DfMA-led approach can reduce site complexity, improve consistency and help maintain programme momentum. For developers and main contractors, the benefit is a cladding partner who understands the whole journey, from early design and cost-effective engineering through to manufacture, installation and final finish. It also means fewer gaps between design, workshop and site, because the same accountable team carries the detail through each stage. The result is architectural cladding that looks sharp, performs properly and is delivered by one accountable team from start to finish, without losing sight of quality, safety or programme.

“Alloy Fabweld helped turn a complex façade detail into a buildable solution, keeping the design intent clear while making installation far easier on site for everyone.”
