Canary Wharf Crossrail

Canary Wharf Contractors, London

Within this ambitious project, Alloy Fabweld played a crucial role. Commissioned by Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd on a £3.5 million package, their team was responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of key architectural and safety elements throughout the subterranean station. This included emergency fire escape staircases rising six floors in two separate cores, brushed stainless steel cladding applied to elliptical concrete columns on the platform, along with wall rails, balustrades and cat ladders.

While these elements may not attract the same attention as the dramatic roof structure above, they are essential to both the safety and the aesthetic quality of the station. Alloy Fabweld’s precision engineering and expert installation ensured that functional infrastructure was integrated seamlessly into one of London’s most high-profile transport environments. Their contribution helped balance practicality with design integrity, reinforcing Canary Wharf Crossrail as a landmark achievement in urban regeneration and modern engineering.

"Alloy Fabweld delivered essential safety and architectural metalwork for the Canary Wharf Crossrail station with exceptional precision and reliability. Their staircases, cladding, balustrades and safety features were expertly crafted and flawlessly integrated, supporting the functionality and integrity of this landmark transport hub."

London’s Canary Wharf Crossrail station is part of the iconic Crossrail Place development, a remarkable over-site scheme that combines a major transport hub with retail, leisure and landscaped public space above. Designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with Adamson Associates Architects, the complex is instantly recognisable for its dramatic timber lattice roof and rooftop garden, which has become a popular destination in its own right.
