Sponsoring the Cambodia Trek...

When our Group MD's wife Linda took an interest in St Clare Hospice's world challenges, she never imagined how great she would feel taking part...what an experience!

Being a volunteer at St Clare for a number of years, Linda secured the backing of Alloy Fabweld to sponsor her on her first fundraising trip.

Trekking for 95km over five days through Cambodia which is home to dazzling green rice-paddies and jungles dotted with temples and ruins, villages of thatched stilted houses, and small towns where Buddhist temples nestle amongst graceful French colonial buildings. She and the group trekked the hills, valleys and forests of the surrounding area, ascending to the upper plain of Kulen Mountain - a region not only rich in history, but in beautiful landscapes and the rural way of life where little has changed for centuries. The famous smiles of this remarkably friendly country carried them on to the finish point at Angkor Wat, where they explored the ancient capital of the mighty Khmer Empire.

On her return, Linda has been reflecting "I went with strangers and came back with incredible friends! I’ve trekked in hot, humid conditions through jungles, up Kulen Mountain and finishing at Angkor Wat. Camping & sharing ‘traditional’ facilities makes you close as a group!"

Already looking forward to her next trip - well done to Linda and the St Clare fundraising group, and for raising much needed funds for our wonderful Essex Hospice.
