Unity Place

Osborne+Co, London

Within the building’s striking atrium, Alloy Fabweld delivered five beautiful staircases that are both functional and sculptural. Crafted from rich English Oak and set off against elegant steel handrails, these staircases draw inspiration from Spanish design and guide the eye through the atrium, encouraging people to choose movement over lifts as part of the building’s health-conscious design philosophy.

Alloy Fabweld’s commitment to quality was evident in every detail. Manufactured off-site in modular sections at their carbon-neutral facility, the staircases were assembled by hand, with skilled craftsmen even carrying oak components up existing staircases to ensure a flawless finish. Once complete, each section was carefully lifted into place through the atrium roof void, achieving seamless integration with the building’s architecture.

The atrium’s design, with its floor-to-ceiling glazing, open trusses and bright, welcoming ambience, is central to Unity Place’s appeal, fostering connection, daylight and visibility of architectural features such as the staircases. These warm wooden staircases provide a tactile, human scale within the expansive, glass-filled volume and align perfectly with Unity Place’s broader goals of wellbeing, aesthetics and community engagement.

"Alloy Fabweld’s oak staircases brought warmth, craftsmanship and elegance to the heart of Unity Place. Their meticulous off-site fabrication, attention to detail and seamless installation elevated the atrium and embodied the building's values of wellness and architectural inspiration."
