The balconies and walkways were a key part of the development’s design, giving residents practical external space while adding structure, depth and rhythm to the building elevations. Each steel framed balcony had to be fabricated with precision to ensure consistency across the scheme, while also meeting the safety, durability and finish standards expected of a high-quality residential development.

The composite concrete decking provided a robust and long-lasting surface for residents, while the glass privacy screens helped create separation between homes without making the external areas feel closed in. This balance of openness, privacy and performance was particularly important on a scheme where balcony and walkway areas formed such a visible part of the architectural expression.

Alloy Fabweld also delivered steel framed canopies, helping to complete the external metalwork package with practical shelter and a clean architectural finish. These elements were designed to integrate with the wider development, supporting both everyday use and the overall appearance of the scheme.

Grand Central demonstrates Alloy Fabweld’s ability to deliver large-scale balcony, walkway and canopy packages for residential developments. Through careful design, accurate fabrication and coordinated installation, the team helped create a safe, durable and visually consistent finish across this major Cambridge scheme.

"Alloy Fabweld delivered the balcony, walkway and canopy package for Grand Central with precision and professionalism. Their work helped provide residents with high-quality external spaces while contributing to the clean, contemporary character of the development."
