240 Blackfriars
Mace Group, London
Alloy Fabweld was appointed by Mace Group to deliver a £910k architectural metalwork package for the project. Their scope included the design, manufacture and installation of a unique stainless steel balustrade to the stair cores, roof louvres, bespoke illuminated planters and a cycle canopy with two-tier cycle racks.
The stainless steel balustrades provided a clean, durable and high-quality finish within the building’s circulation areas, supporting both safety and the refined internal specification. The roof louvres were carefully integrated into the building envelope, helping to meet the practical requirements of the development while maintaining a consistent architectural appearance.
At ground level, Alloy Fabweld’s bespoke illuminated planters and cycle canopy contributed to the building’s external environment. These elements helped support the wider design focus on public realm, access and sustainable travel, while adding useful, well-finished features for occupiers and visitors.
The project required close coordination within a complex construction environment, where accuracy, sequencing and finish quality were essential. Alloy Fabweld’s work at 240 Blackfriars demonstrates their ability to deliver varied architectural metalwork packages on high-profile central London developments, combining practical performance with carefully detailed design.
"Alloy Fabweld delivered a high-quality architectural metalwork package for 240 Blackfriars. Their work on the stair core balustrades, roof louvres, illuminated planters and cycle canopy was completed with precision and professionalism, helping to support the building’s strong architectural finish and everyday functionality."

240 Blackfriars is a landmark mixed-use development on London’s South Bank, positioned close to Blackfriars Bridge at a key junction of road, rail and river. Designed by AHMM and delivered by Mace Group, the building combines a striking commercial tower with a smaller residential element, creating a bold architectural presence within one of London’s most active riverside districts.
The 19-storey tower was designed to provide modern office accommodation with impressive views across the Thames, while also responding to the constraints of a tight urban site. Its sharp, glazed form and high-quality public realm helped establish 240 Blackfriars as a distinctive addition to the South Bank skyline.
