CAD DESIGNER - ARCHITECTURAL METALWORK

In this exciting role as a CAD Designer, you will be a critical part of the team working on the design process within a busy technical department. We are a large-scale architectural metalwork provider in the UK, specialising in staircases, high-rise, residential contracts, cladding, and rain-screen bespoke packages aligned to metalwork packages and for public work contracts - such as stations and infrastructure. Project values range from £500k to over £8m, these include developments with multiple materials including glass, timber, aluminium, stainless steel, and the full range of architectural steelwork.

There is an opportunity for the right candidate to progress to head the technical department.

The Role:

In this role, you will be required during the development of new projects (including complex mechanical components) to produce high-quality, technically accurate, drawings and documentation. To present building designs to clients or management for approval and interact with other building designers and professionals to exchange ideas on techniques/style for structural plans.

You will also prepare and present job proposals to clients, whilst emphasising the ability to deliver architectural designs that meet set requirements, including reworking and modifying designs as may be requested by clients or management. You will be confident in acting as mentor and guide junior designers in the preparation of structural designs and models.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Gather and collect design requirements for new constructions, alterations, or repairs.

  • Prepare architecture design based on design requirements.

  • Submit architectural designs to management and clients for review and approval.

  • Support and guide designers involved in preparing drawings.

 

Essential Skills/Experience for this role:

  • 3D AutoCAD/Advanced Steel– Advantageous but not essential.

  • Proven Construction / Steel Fabrication background. Ideally in the steel fabrication / architectural metalwork industry.

  • Experience in working to set design standards.

  • Understand manufacturing technologies, process techniques, and installation procedures.

  • Use of in-house systems and standard drawing office procedures for design processes.

  • A good communicator by telephone, email, and online teams.

  • Proven experience in working to deadlines and programme timeframes.

  • A ‘Can do’ attitude who can work well under pressure.

  • Willing to go above and beyond to achieve high-level results

  • Site surveying experience is advantageous.

  • Construction, architectural metalwork, cladding, and curtain walling Experience.

  • Full UK Driving licence.
